Cognitive dissonance is the 'gap' between our values (our integrity) and our actions. So, if we value eating healthily but secretly hide and eat chocolate, we will create an unease within us. If we tell ourselves we should exercise more but then spend our time sitting watching TV, we will feel guilty and beat ourselves up for being a failure. If we want to be more caring and loving but, find ourselves shouting at our family or being rude to our colleagues, we will 'feel bad' about our Self.
To resolve this we need to close the gap. We need to align our values and integrity with our daily actions. This will positively influence our thoughts about ourselves and create more peace, happiness and harmony. In the words of the underground... "Mind the Gap!"
